Bus Driver

Sandy Spring Friends School seeks experienced drivers to operate a school bus transporting children in a safe and courteous manner to and from school, and on special trips. Candidates must be at least 25 years of age, be willing to work a 10-month split shift work schedule, and will be responsible for following an assigned route and schedule. Additional runs for field trips and summer hours may be available.

Sandy Spring offers paid holidays, paid inclement weather days, accrued sick and safe leave, and 403b retirement match after one year. Drivers are required to submit to a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and random screenings post employment.

Qualifications include: A high school diploma or equivalent; ability to read, write and speak English sufficiently to perform all of the duties of the position; and a valid Maryland driver’s license is a must.

Required: (Sandy Spring Friends School will provide training for applicant to achieve certification(s) if necessary.)

Essential Physical Requirements: Bus driving requires sitting for long periods of time; moderate bending, squatting, kneeling, and twisting; using hands and feet to navigate controls; ability to drive after dark; and if necessary in an emergency, the ability to lift, push/pull, and carry children of various sizes. Also required is normal vision including distance, peripheral, and depth perception; normal visual color discrimination and normal hearing. It will also be necessary to navigate uneven pavement, slippery surfaces, and stairs.
