Founded in 1961, Sandy Spring Friends School is a Quaker, coed, academically-rigorous day and boarding school serving approximately 620 students from age three through 12th grade. The campus is located on 140 acres in the historic Sandy Spring area of Montgomery County, Maryland, and the School is approved by the Maryland State Board of Education and accredited by the Association of Independent Maryland Schools.

Immediate: Maintenance Technician (Temporary Position)
Summary: General work for the purpose of maintaining facilities for students, staff and public in a safe, operating condition. Candidates will have the ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional and courteous manner, understand and follow oral and written instructions performing multiple tasks inside and outside buildings on campus. This is a temporary position, with the possibility of becoming permanent.
Responsibilities:

Responds to administrative work requests for completing work orders (and/or projects) in a timely, efficient, and productive manner.

Assists skilled workers as a helper in various trades (ex: carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Inspects facilities, systems, and their components for the purpose of identifying necessary repairs.

Maintains tools and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.

May safely operate basic equipment using defined methods.

Performs minor repairs as assigned.

Provides support for school events, on and off campus.

Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Qualifications: A High School diploma or equivalent. Ability to read, write and speak English sufficiently to perform all of the duties of the position. Experience with basic business technology, such as Microsoft, Google applications or similar. Experience working in a school is preferred but not required. A valid Maryland Commercial Driver’s License for School Bus is preferred, but not required. Must have the ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional and courteous manner.
Essential Physical Requirements:
This is a highly physical position requiring but not limited to the following:

Sitting less than 1 hour per day, standing greater than 7 hours per day, walking 3-7 hours per day ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds, push/pull greater than 50 pounds, climbing stairs/ladders 1-3 hours per day, moderate bending, excessive squatting and frequent twisting, kneeling, and reaching.

Driving is a requirement of this position.

Also required is normal vision including distance, peripheral, and depth perception, normal visual color discrimination, normal hearing, and speaking/reading/writing English proficiently.

Exposure to chemicals, noise levels above 85dB, dust, fumes, odors, humidity, as well as slippery and uneven surfaces should be expected.

On-call duty may be required, as well as overtime; work schedules may vary.
